Damien Zannetou founded Aenea Cosmetics in London, England. However, it’s possible to link its roots to the small village of Sia, Cyprus. Born to entrepreneur parents, Damien always had an interest in his mother’s skincare regime and how she switched between products in search of something that didn’t cause breakouts. From patch test to patch test, Damien became aware of just how important ingredients were within skincare products. Not only did the lack of a trustworthy skincare range cause breakouts, but it also impacted his mother’s confidence. After witnessing this first hand, Damien set out to make a change.

Damien first opened a London based skin clinic in 2010. He called it Aenea and within no time, it was a success. Aeneas’ clients ranged from local women to the stars, all of who were interested in the latest skincare and anti-ageing treatments and Damien soon realized the benefits of being able to give these women products to use at home. Team this with the knowledge of his own mother’s skincare struggles and he set out to create a line of products that could be boost the skin’s appearance, even on sensitive skin.

Though everyone is born with a predetermined genetic code that determines how skin looks, a number of lifestyle factors also have an impact. It wasn’t long before Damien became interested in epigenetics and using the natural abilities of skin as a way to improve its appearance. By strengthening skin from the inside out, Damien wanted to give skin the boost it needed to combat pollution, sun exposure and stress.

Thinking back to growing up in Cyprus, Damien considered two of his aunts who were identical twins and born with an identical genetic code. By thinking about the external elements and different lifestyles that affected how they aged, Damien was able to create skincare products that enhanced and improved skin using genetics.

Quickly, Damien’s team of experts started working on products that built upon what DNA naturally provides. Soon, the Aenea Cosmetics anti-ageing and vegan skincare line was born. Damien chose the name based on the Greco-Roman hero, Aeneas, and a Greek word meaning ‘young’. Aeneas was also the son of the Goddess of beauty Aphrodite.
